Paul Verbinnen


Paul co-founded SVC in 1992 and is actively involved with many of the firm’s clients, including public corporations, high-profile executives and educational institutions. He has worked on numerous M&A transactions and proxy contests, as well as crisis situations including product recalls, data breaches, litigation, regulatory matters and executive transitions. Paul works with many companies and boards on corporate positioning, scenario planning and preparedness.

Engagements include:

  • Becton Dickinson on its acquisition of CareFusion and pending acquisition of C.R. Bard
  • Dollar Tree on its contested acquisition of Family Dollar
  • Rock-Tenn on its acquisition of MeadWestvaco
  • GTECH on its acquisition of IGT
  • Alexion on its acquisition of Synageva
  • Owens Illinois’ acquisition of Vitro Packaging assets
  • Dell’s going private transaction
  • Stanley Works acquisition of Black and Decker
  • MetLife on its litigation over its SIFI designation
  • Illumina and Ventana against an unsolicited takeover bids by Roche; and Vulcan on its defense against Martin Marietta
  • Numerous collegiate and K-12 educational institutions on crises
  • Hess in a proxy contest against Elliott Advisors; Forest Laboratories in proxy fights against Carl Icahn; and The New York Times on two proxy fights

Previously, Paul was executive vice president, International for a major public relations firm and, prior to that, helped start a sports marketing firm.

Paul has a B.A. degree in political science from Syracuse University and is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and of the Brookings Council.
