Niel Golightly

Managing Director, Houston

Niel advises clients on a wide range of matters, including M&A, crises, corporate positioning, and ESG. He also contributes to SVC’s continued growth through business development and strategic counsel across the firm’s practice areas. He brings deep strategic communications experience and expertise from his multi-decade career serving in senior leadership roles at a variety of global companies, including Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Company, Royal Dutch Shell and the Boeing Company.

Niel has developed a background in public-private partnerships through a secondment with the Mayor of Houston to support the city’s recovery from Hurricane Harvey; consulting with the Greater Houston Partnership on an energy transition strategy for the Houston region; the development of strategic energy scenarios for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and advising the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Niel began his career on active duty with the U.S. Navy, first as a carrier-based pilot and later as special assistant and speechwriter to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin Powell.

He received a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and later studied at the University of Konstanz in Germany as a Navy Olmsted Scholar. Niel also received certificates from Oxford University for strategic scenario planning and from Rice University’s Doerr Institute for new Leaders for executive coaching.
