HUGH L. BURNS

Hugh L. Burns is a Managing Director and the firm’s General Counsel. Mr. Burns joined the firm from the litigation department of Latham & Watkins. Prior to that, he was an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell.

Since joining Sard Verbinnen, Mr. Burns has advised clients on a wide range of situations, including litigation support assignments, regulatory investigations, management changes, earnings announcements and restatements, and numerous proxy fights, mergers, acquisitions and other complex financial transactions and contests for corporate control. He also manages several long-term corporate positioning programs.

As a litigator, Mr. Burns focused on commercial, securities, and international litigation and arbitration. He has appeared before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Delaware Chancery Court, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Second and Fourth Circuits.

Mr. Burns graduated cum laude from Fordham University School of Law in 1992 and was an Associate Editor of the Fordham Law Review. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1988 from Princeton University, where he majored in history.
